Frequently Asked Questions

What is NLP?

NLP is the study of the patterns of thinking, feeling, communicating, and behaving.

NLP stands for Neuro Linguistic Programming.

Neuro refers to your Nervous system which includes your 5 senses.

Linguistic refers to your use of language towards yourself and to others and how that can have a dramatic effect on the results you get in life. (This also includes body language)

Programming refers to your ability to organise patterns of behaviour that can help you to achieve the success you want in life.

Who is it for?

NLP teaches you how to improve your general well-being, your mental health, your personal resilience, and professional success. So, if you are looking to improve in any of those areas then NLP is for you.

What can you do with it?

NLP is used to improve how you think, feel, communicate, and act and is used to help others do likewise.

For that reason, it can be used for personal or professional development. It is widely used in Coaching, Therapy, and all levels of Business from Sales right through to operations and Customer service.

What evidence is there that it works?

The fact that it used by Coaches and Therapists worldwide and in most of the fortune 100 companies is a testament to its efficacy.

Despite there being considerable research on the subject much of it is carried out to test its scientific validity, however NLP is not scientific, nor does it claim to be.

NLP is phenomenological. Phenomenology is the study of the structure of consciousness, it is a way of thinking about ourselves and our subjective experience of living, which because of its multilevel format does not lend itself well to the scientific process.

How will I know if it is for me?

NLP is suited to most people to some degree and it’s really a matter of figuring out what you want from NLP. There are so many options from a one-to-one Coaching session to a weekend course to our Practitioner or Business Practitioner Course. The best way to find that out is to give us a call or pop us an email: 01 4902923 or theresa@nlp.ie

Do I get a certificate?

Yes, most of our courses come with a certificate issued by The Society of NLP or by ourselves here at the IINLP.

Is there an exam?

There is no formal exam in the traditional sense of the word, but your progress is monitored as you make your way through the course with a view to ensuring you meet the high standards that The IINLP is known for.

What happens on an NLP course?
Each course is delivered through demonstration, stories, real life examples and discussion and is workshop based. So, from the beginning you will be testing and applying what you have learned with your fellow course participants in a safe and secure setting where you will be given support and guidance right the way through. You will have the opportunity to ask questions, offer input, and address any concerns or queries that you may have.
The tone of the courses are predominantly light-hearted, fast paced, entertaining and content rich. Participants are often surprised at how much they learn and how fast time flies when they are on the course and this is the reason they keep coming back for more.
Is NLP the same as Coaching?

Coaching is an application of NLP and most of the tools used in modern Coaching methods are either NLP or NLP based. (The widely accepted GROW Coaching model is directly influenced by The Well-Formed Outcomes Process in NLP).
